This is my story

Evelyn achieved a B. S. degree in Home Economics from Columbia College in 1936 and did graduate work at the University of Tennessee and North Carolina. She taught in the Parker School District in Greenville, South Carolina during World War II and was supervisor of school lunchrooms there until coming to Asheville, North Carolina in 1947. She was a member of the national and state Food Service Association and was President in 1962. While she was supervisor of the School Food Service in Asheville, NC she fed approximately 7,000 children lunch daily on a budget of $350,000.
Evelyn, my mom, was one of the most creative people I have known. There wasn't anything that she couldn't do craft or sewing wise. She taught me to sew at the age of 13 and that is a skill I am forever grateful for and have been fortunate to have a career in the quilting world.
Evelyn was married July 20, 1937 and worked in the Parker School District in Greenville until she moved to Asheville, NC in 1947 where she became a stay at home mom. In 1960 knowing that my younger brother Sam and I no longer needed her attention at home she went back to work as Supervisor for the Asheville City School lunch room program where she was responsible for serving meals to 7,000 students daily, all for twenty five cents each. She retired in 1979 after 19 years and remained in Asheville until 1985 when she moved to Satellite Beach, Florida to be near her daughter, Nancy.
