Life Story and Memories

On May 14, 2008 at the age of 86. George passed away peacefully at his home from complications of Parkinson Disease with his family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Violet; two sons, Sam (and wife Patti) of Portland, ME, and Chuck (and wife Lisa) of Sarasota, FL; two sisters, Elizabeth McRoberts of Houston, TX, and Janet Roth of Madison, WI; and a brother, Leonard (and wife Jac) of Sarasota, FL; three grandchildren, two step granddaughters; also nieces and nephews. Because of his passion for flying, he left West Virginia University his junior year to enlist in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Later, he flew for the U.S. Army Air Corps. He completed 23 combat missions over Europe in WWII before he was shot down and spent one year in a German Prison Camp. After the war he settled in Pittsburgh, where he went to work for Ryan Homes, Inc. He spent the majority of his career as a land developer. His favorite activities included golf, fishing, and boating in the Florida Keys. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS, McMurray, PA (724-941-3211). At the request of the family there is No visitation. Burial at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Friday, 12:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 490 East North Ave., Suite 500, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
